Dragonettes salvage win in Cass tourney

CARTERSVILLE - The Pickens girls basketball team hit six of seven free throws down the stretch to hold off Lassiter 50-41 Friday night in the Century Bank Holiday Hoopfest at Cass High School.

The Dragonettes improved to 6-7 on the season.

Pickens will open its Region 7-AAA East schedule Tuesday at home against Chestatee.

The Dragonettes led 12-8 after the first quarter and 23-17 at halftime. They held off a late run in the fourth by the Lady Trojans.

Pickens was 13-of-18 from the free throw line for the game.

Allison Tennant led the Dragonettes with 16 points. Kala Turner added 10 points and was named to the All-Tournament team.

The win was the first for Pickens in the tournament after losing to Cartersville 73-49 in the opener and then to Roswell 55-37 when the Dragonettes got in foul trouble.
