Bearden Funeral Home announces the death of Mrs. Lou Alice Oxendine Dewberry, age 58, of Dawsonville, Georgia, who died Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at Crawford W. Long in Atlanta following a short illness.
Born in Richland County, South Carolina, she had lived in Lumpkin County for the past ten years, having moved from Birmingham, Alabama.
Mrs. Dewberry was employed as a Media Specialist with the Forsyth County School System, and had worked in the education field for 37 years. She received her B.A. degree from the University of North Alabama and her Masters degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she also received her Education Specialist degree.
She was president of the Georgia State Technology Fair, was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and was preceded in death by her parents, Melyar and Elizabeth Oxendine.
Survivors include her husband, Sidney Alton Dewberry, Dawsonville; children, Anita and Jeff Wiley, Warrior, Alabama; Brian and Brooke Jacobs, Peachtree City, Georgia; Aimee Jacobs, Dawsonville; Brad Jacobs, Peachtreee City, Georgia; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Joe Griffey, Auburn, Alabama; brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Wanda Oxendine, Warrior, Alabama; aunts and uncles, Edith Kretzschmar; Ray and Gwen Turner; Ronnie Oxendine; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 21, 2007 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Dahlonega Ward. Dr. Alma Parker will officiate, and interment will be in Dawsonville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 20, 2007 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
