GAINESVILLE - A woman who was the first employee of what today is Jacobs Media Corporation and was a "fixture" with the company for more than 60 years has died.

Lois Ragan Martin died Wednesday morning following a stroke.

She was fresh out of high school and was the firm's first employee when WDUN went on the air in 1949. The company now includes WDUN-AM, WDUN-FM, 1240 ESPN Radio and AccessNorthGa.com.

"Lois was a fixture at Jacobs Media for over 60 years," President and CEO Jay Jacobs said. "She was loyal, kind, considerate, engaging - and a friend to all she worked with. She represented herself, her family and (the) business with the utmost professionalism, style and grace. We are the company we are today, due in large part to everything she taught us"

She was Jacobs Media founder John Jacobs, Jr.'s "assistant and right hand," Jay Jacobs added.

For years, it was Lois who greeted visitors at the front desk in the lobby and answered the phone.

Graveside Services are scheduled for Friday at 11:00 at Memorial Park Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 at the First Presbyterian Church in Cleveland. The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00-11:00 at the funeral home.
