GAINESVILLE - Gainesville water customers will not have to pay a higher rate for water, but they will see an increase in account service fees on their bills starting in January.

Gainesville City Council voted 4-to-1 at a meeting Tuesday night to approve a resolution that provides for a monthly account service fee of $5.10, up from $4.25, the 2014 amount. Councilman Sam Couvillon cast the lone opposing vote to the resolution.

Council deadlocked at a meeting last month on a plan to increase water rates by one percent.

This story will be updated.
