Actor/singer James Darren to appear at Kollock Memorial Project kickoff in Helen

HELEN - Actor/singer James Darren is scheduled to appear at the Sept. 19 fundraiser in Helen for the John Kollock Memorial Project.

The event will be held at the home of Jerry and Gayle Murdock in the Innsbruck Golf Club Community, Helen, where Darren will make a guest appearance and give a private concert.

Darren starred in the 1959 film, "Gidget" along with Sandra Dee and Cliff Robertson in a story of a teenager's initiation into the California surf culture and her romance with a young surfer.

He also had a role in the 1961 World War II film, "The Guns of Navarone." Darren had a regular role on the television police drama, "T.J. Hooker" from 1983 until 1986. Subsequently, Darren served as the director of a number of action-based television series including "Hunter," "The A-Team," "Nowhere Man" and dramas such as "Beverly Hills 90210" and "Melrose Place."

As a recording artist, he released more than a dozen singles between 1959 and 1977. The most successful of them was 1961's "Goodbye Cruel World."
