By The Associated Press
LAGRANGE, Ga. (AP) Authorities say a 1-year-old boy had died in an apparent accidental drowning in a west Georgia lake.
Troup County sheriff's officials say deputies were called to West Point Lake after a 911 call early Sunday afternoon.
Authorities said the boy's mother had found the child unresponsive in shallow water. Sheriff's officials said CPR and other life-saving measures were attempted. The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports that the child was taken to West Georgia Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 12:56 p.m. Sunday.
The boy's name was not immediately released.
The lake near LaGrange is just east of the Georgia-Alabama line.
