KHB hosts annual appreciation ceremony
By Ken Stanford Staff
GAINESVILLE - Keep Hall Beautiful (KHB) recently celebrated another successful year at its annual appreciation ceremony, where several people and organizations who were instrumental in its successes were recognized:
*Main Street Gainesville, Partner Organization of the Year, for co-coordinating the Spring Chicken Festival and continued support of Keep Hall Beautiful
*Bethany Barroqueiro, Volunteer of the Year
*Rick Foote, having retired from Hall County Resource Recovery and having been instrumental with Keep Hall Beautiful’s development and growth, received the Keep Hall Beautiful Legacy Award. Foote was a member of the Hall Clean Council in the early 90s and served as a member of the team that helped establish the organization as Keep Hall Beautiful and as an official Keep America Beautiful affiliate 20 years ago. Foote was also one of the original Spring Chicken Festival organizers which is Keep Hall Beautiful’s largest fundraiser of the year.
*With the proceeds of the Spring Chicken Festival, Keep Hall Beautiful has been able to purchase a much needed vehicle to facilitate our litter cleanups and community service program. This new vehicle will increase the number of participants KHB is capable of transporting thus increasing our productivity within the community.
It was presented to Scott Broome along with the “Clean Sweep Award.”
Broome is celebrating his fifth year with Keep Hall Beautiful and has been instrumental in organizing KHB's community service and volunteer litter cleanup program resulting in 364,106 pounds of litter being collected off of Hall County roads and out of the water. Since Scott has been hired the program has increased its litter and recyclable collection totals from 32,360 lbs in 2010 to 112,094lbs in 2014.
