Cross country: Chestatee girls win, boys take 2nd

The Chestatee girls cross country team took first place in a close-run race on Thursday at the Union County meet in Blairsville.

The War Eagles edged out Hayesville, N.C., by four points.

Lindsey Grater, Abbie Cliche, and Merry Barnett led the field for Chestatee. Bailey Hooper and Mary Ashley Easterwood both ran well to close the deal on points.

Jeanna Hughes of Union County was the overall winner, taking the home course in a time of 22:07.

The Chestatee boys team placed second, finishing behind Union County. Jack Carnes, the War Eagles lead runner, was second overall

Chestatee will host the War Eagle Invitational on Saturday.
