GAINESVILLE - The Hall County School Board learned at a meeting Monday afternoon that the system likely will need to build more classrooms at both Johnson and Flowery Branch high schools on the south end of the county.

Matt Cox, the Director of Facilities for Hall County Schools, said both of those schools are at capacity now. He's already talked with the State Department of Education about adding 20 classrooms to each campus.

"We're looking at possibly up to $1.2 million per facility," said Cox.

He said those additions would allow each school to accommodate an additional 400 students.

As of Monday, enrollment at Flowery Branch High School was 1,780, while enrollment at Johnson High School was 1,415.

Cox said if the school system gets the go-ahead from the state, he expects plans will be formulated in the next two to three months.

School system officials said the growth at the two high schools is coming from outside the county; enrollment at other county schools remains static.
