Section of Prior St. on Brenau campus to close most of Wed.

GAINESVILLE - A section of Prior Street which runs through the Brenau University campus will be closed most of the day Wednesday which is "move-in" day for students.
The street closure is necessary, school officials say, because of the college-related construction work in progress on the street. The street, a popular cut-through between the east and north sides of town, will be closed between 7:00 and 4:00.
The area between Washington Street and Smithgall Lane in front of Crudup Hall will be used as a drop-off zone for luggage and essentials as new and returning students move into their residence halls. However, usual access to the Brenau Fitness Center and the Child Development Center will be open.
“We hope this does not inconvenience our Gainesville neighbors too much,” said Lorene Pharr, Brenau assistant vice president for administrative services. “Normally there would be plenty of parking on the full length of Prior and around Sorority Circle. But with the construction of new sorority houses in progress, much of that area has been fenced off.”
Brenau says it worked with city traffic officials to arrange the detour around campus using Washington, Boulevard and Park streets. Brenau Security will be stationed at the barricades in front of Crudup Hall on Prior and will allow parents and students to pull up to Crudup Hall and stop in the street to unload gear and then clear out so others can use the space.
The fall semester begins Monday, Aug. 25.
