Gainesville church hosts Local Mission Expo Sat.
GAINESVILLE - First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville's second annual Local Mission Expo will focus on "hands on" service with 25 local volunteer agencies on Saturday, the day of the event, and projects all year long.
The event starts at 8:30 a.m. in Swetenburg Hall at the church at 800 South Enota Drive with biscuits, coffee, and representatives of the agencies sharing information on their missions and needs.
Participants can sign up for working at one of the sites including building a house, landscaping and yard work, baking cookies for local emergency responders, helping out with an agency benefit from setting up to breaking down and cleaning up, and learning about being a trail steward at the Linwood Nature Preserve.
Registration and signup for individual projects can be done online at

The Rev. Dr. Tom Jones, Ambassador-at-Large to Habitat for Humanity International, will bring the devotional during the opening celebration and a volunteer will be recognized for service in the past year.
Lunch will be available for volunteers who work on projects in the community later in the day.
