DULUTH - A deceased man who went unidentified for days in Gwinnett County was a retired Norcross High School teacher and an adjunct professor at Brenau University.

Brenau officials said Friday that John Philip Rogers, 62, had taught history in an adjunct position since 2005 at the University's North Atlanta campus in Norcross.

Rogers was found suffering from an apparent heart attack on the side of Old Peachtree Road the morning of July 29. He was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center where he died Friday, August 1. Gwinnett Police had issued requests for help from the public in identifying Rogers, since he was not carrying any identification when he was found.

On Wednesday, August 6, police said Rogers' son, who lives in California, flew to Gwinnett County and identified his father. Rogers apparently was known to take long walks or bike rides on a daily basis; he had no immediate family in the area.

Brenau University spokesman David Morrison confirmed Rogers' employment with the University, saying that Rogers was well-liked among students who had taken his classes.
