Veteran NE Ga. state trooper named GSP Commanding Officer

Waldrop
ATLANTA Tommy Waldrop, a veteran northeast Georgia state trooper, has been promoted to the rank of Major in the Georgia State Patrol and named Commanding Officer effective August 1.

In his new capacity, Maj. Waldrop is responsible for the field operations of the Georgia State Patrol, including the 51 GSP posts across the state, as well as the Criminal Interdiction Unit (CIU), Implied Consent Unit, SWAT, GSP Dive Team and the Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT).

Waldrop joined the Department of Public Safety in May of 1992 and graduated from the 66th Georgia State Patrol Trooper School in November 1992. He was initially assigned to GSP Athens and has also served at GSP Toccoa and GSP Gainesville as a supervisor.

He was promoted to Lieutenant and Assistant Troop Commander for Troop B (Northeast Georgia) in 2011. He was promoted to Captain and Troop B Commander in 2012.
