GA man sentenced to 30 years on child porn charges
By The Associated Press
ROME, Ga. (AP) -- Federal prosecutors say a northwest Georgia man accused of extorting children for explicit photos has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said in a statement that 22-year-old Joshua James Geer of Cartersville was sentenced on charges of child pornography production, coercion of minors to engage in unlawful sex acts and possession of child pornography.
Authorities say Geer befriended a 17-year-old Illinois boy on an online chatroom and eventually threatened to expose him to others if he didn't send photos of himself and his 11-year-old sister engaged in sex acts.
Investigators say sheriff's officials in Pinellas County, Florida also identified Geer as a suspect who demanded explicit photos from a 16-year-old girl.
Geer is ordered to serve a lifetime of supervised release after his sentence.
