G-Braves ease by RailRiders, 3-1

MOOSIC, Pa. - The Gwinnett Braves (50-61) picked up their fourth win on their current eight-game road trip with a 3-1 victory over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (53-58) Wednesday afternoon in game two of the four game series at PNC Field.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre took the early lead, plating a run off of Gwinnett starter Gus Schlosser in the bottom of the second. Austin Romine led off with a double to left and moved to third on a ground out to first by Corbin Joseph. With the infield pulled in, Rob Segedin drilled a single off the leg of G-Braves shortstop Ozzie Martinez, scoring Romine for a 1-0 lead.

After two scoreless innings, Gwinnett tied the game with a run in the top of the fifth inning. SWB starter Matt Tracy walked Edward Salcedo to lead off the inning, and Steve Lerud followed with a sacrifice bunt to move Salcedo into scoring position. Salcedo advanced to third base on a single by Joe Leonard and scored as Taylor Dugas misplayed the grounder in left field, making it 1-1.

Christian Bethancourt (5) hit a two-out, solo homerun to left giving the G-Braves their first lead of the contest.

Gwinnett added a crucial insurance run in the top of the ninth against reliever Jim Miller. With one out, Lerud singled to right and moved to second on a single to center by Jose Constanza. Tyler Pastornicky, who drove in the winning run in the top of the ninth on Tuesday, came through again with a single to right, scoring Lerud from second and extending the lead to 3-1.

Schlosser (W, 7-5) went 5.0 innings for his third win in his last four starts for Gwinnett. He gave up one earned run with four walks and one strikeout. Luis Avilan tossed 2.0 scoreless innings with one walk. Terry Doyle pitched 0.1 of an inning with one hit. Ryan Buchter worked 0.2 of an inning with one strikeout. Carlos Fisher (S, 1) picked up his first save of the season by going 1.0 inning with two walks and one strikeout.

For the RailRiders, Tracy (L, 1-4) pitched 6.0 innings with eight hits, two earned runs, two walks and four strikeouts in a losing effort. Tyler Webb worked 1.1 innings with two hits and one strikeout. Jim Miller went 1.2 innings with three hits, one earned run and three strikeouts.

At the plate, Constanza paced Gwinnett with a 4-for-5 afternoon. Joey Terdoslavich and Bethancourt were each 2-for-4 with Bethancourt adding a solo home run.

The RailRiders were led by Antoan Richardson who was 2-for-2 and Romine who was 2-for-3 with a run scored .

The G-Braves and the RailRiders will meet in game three of the four game series Thursday night. LHP Daniel Rodriguez (6-11, 4.67) is scheduled to pitch for the Braves. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will go with RHP Bruce Billings (4-5, 5.35). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Tony Schiavone will have the play by play call beginning at 6:50 p.m. on,, Tune-In Radio and MiLB First Pitch.
