Gainesville's Mallard shines at national Junior Olympics

HUMBLE, Texas -- Gainesville's Hunter Mallard a rising sophomore at Gainesville High, recently showed his future is bright in the pole vault.

Mallard cleared a personal best 12-feet-7.5 at the USATF Junior Olympics in Humble, Texas, on Saturday to finish 16th in the the nation amongst 15-16-year-olds.

Mallard competed against a field of 34 vaulters and was one of only two vaulters from the state of Georgia.

Armand Duplantis, of New Heights Gym Track Club (New Iberia, La.), won the event in 15-16 class with a vault of 15-1.
