Dawson Co.Sheriff, pastors to discuss church burglaries today
By The Associated Press
DAWSONVILLE - Sheriff Billy Carlisle is asking representatives of all churches in his county to attend a meeting to discuss a recent rash of church break-ins.
The Dawson County Sheriff's Office said Monday on its official Facebook page that the meeting is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday in Dawsonville. Sheriff's officials are asking for representatives from all churches in the county to attend.
Authorities said at least a dozen churches have been targets of burglaries in Dawson County since February. Dawson County sheriff's Maj. Ray Goodie has said that one of them has been hit multiple times. He estimates the thefts have totaled more than $40,000.
Goodie said his department is working with nearby Lumpkin County on the cases, since churches in that county have also been burglarized.
Lumpkin County authorities recently made two arrests in connection with church break-ins in their county.
