Woman hit by vehicle on Ga. 365 was from Alto
ALTO - The Georgia State Patrol has identified a pregnant woman killed as she walked across Georgia Highway 365 as Kimberly Michelle Coats, 29, of Alto.
Investigators released the identification Monday afternoon.
Coats, who was in her third trimester of pregnancy, was trying to cross the southbound lanes of the highway near Mud Creek Road when she was hit by a vehicle around 9:30 p.m. Sunday. The vehicle was being operated by Joshua Ian Buehler, 38, of Atlanta.
Trooper First Class Jonathan Munger said Sunday night that Buehler's 2014 Chevrolet Cruz was traveling south in the right lane of Georgia 365 when he struck Coats. Buehler attempted to swerve to miss the woman, but the front of the vehicle struck her.
"Per Hall County EMS, both pedestrian and child have been pronounced deceased on scene," Munger said in a statement Sunday.
