GAINESVILLE - About two dozen people showed up at the Hall County Planning Commission meeting Monday evening to oppose a new subdivision on Hog Mountain Road near Friendship Road. The developer, however, was not there.

In advance of Monday's meeting, the president of Ridgeline Land Planning, Inc. had asked the commission via letter to table the plan until next month, so he could speak with neighbors about the 36-lot development. The board's next meeting is August 4.

The proposed subdivision straddles the Hall-Gwinnett County line, which means opponents will have to talk to planning officials in both counties about their concerns. One opponent, who lives in nearby Jones Creek subdivision, pointed out that the Gwinnett meeting is scheduled for August 5. That's a concern for homeowners.

"We're just fearful that he'll want to meet with us with such short notice between that meeting and this meeting," said the homeowner. "If we haven't heard from him, then we'll contact him."

The planning board did not take further comment on the matter. Chairman Don Smallwood told the opponents that they would have ample opportunity to voice their concerns once the proposal was brought back before the board.

County Planning Director Srikanth Yamala suggested that the board consider a delay in the matter until the September meeting, so members could see what Gwinnett's planning board says about the plan.
