SOCIAL CIRCLE - The number of boating-under-the influence cases made on Georgia waterways Saturday, the second day of the July 4 weekend, more than doubled from the day before.
There were 15 BUI tickets written Saturday, according to the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR). One of those was on Lake Lanier, bringing the number for Lanier for the weekend to three. Statewide, 27 citations have been handed out.
DNR also reported Saturday night that there had been eight boating "incidents" statewide, three on Lanier - two Friday and one Saturday. A woman's back was injured in one of Friday's incidents when the boat she was on hit a big wake.
DNR said as of Saturday night, there had been no drownings or boating-related fatalities in Georgia.
