GAINESVILLE - With school starting in about a month in many places, United Way of Hall County has launched an Adopt-A-Backpack campaign and is seeking donations from the public.

Through the initiative, United Way will provide grade-level appropriate backpacks full of supplies directly to the school counselors at all Gainesville City and Hall County schools. The counselors will distribute the backpacks directly to students with the greatest need.

The goal, United Way officials say, is to collect supplies to fill 470 backpacks to provide ten backpacks to each school. Any supplies received above and beyond the goal will be given directly to schools with the highest poverty rate and greatest need.

All supplies can be dropped off at the United Way office at 527 Oak Street in Gainesville.

Volunteers are invited to help sort the supplies and stuff the backpacks on Monday, July 28, at 5:00 at the United Way office. Contact Joy Griffin at jgriffin@unitedwayhallcounty.org to participate.
