NEW YORK - Stocks held onto small gains Friday, enough to mark the latest record high closes for major indexes, and the market notched another weekly increase.

The Standard & Poor's 500 ended the week up 1.4 percent and has risen five out of the last six weeks. The S&P rose three points, or 0.2 percent, to close at 1,962 Friday.

The Dow Jones industrial average gained 25 points, or 0.2 percent, to 16,947.

The Nasdaq rose eight points, or 0.2 percent, to 4,368.

The Dow and S&P 500 are at record highs. The Nasdaq is still well below its dot-com era peak of just over 5,000 points.
