By B.J. Williams Administrator
GAINESVILLE - With no discussion and no public comment, Gainesville City Council gave final approval Tuesday evening to the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
The $30.3 million financial plan includes no tax increase for property owners.
The ad valorem tax rate stands at $3.06 on each $1,000 of taxable property in the city. In addition, the tax rate for the Gainesville City School Board remains fixed at $7.59 per $1,000 of taxable property.
Mayor Danny Dunagan said he was pleased with the budget process this year.
"With no tax increase to the citizens, we're going to be able to do about a million and a half dollars worth of roadwork throughout the city, some repaving and some intersection improvements."
In additional, Dunagan said the city will be able to perform some much needed capital improvements under the new budget. Plus, some city employees will receive merit raises.
The vote to approve the FY 2015 budget was unanimous.
