Convention and Visitors Bureau recognizes local leaders

GAINESVILLE – The annual meeting and recognition ceremony of the Lake Lanier Convention and Visitors Bureau happened under blue skies and gentle breezes at Don Carter State Park Tuesday afternoon.
Those arriving early were welcomed by a distinguished-looking gentleman and member of the bureau, Don Carter (yes, the park’s namesake).
LLCVB President Stacey Dickson was busy setting up the buffet table laden with Southern Smoq BBQ and all the fixings.
Lake Lanier was in the distance, full and glimmering, and the summer was off to a roaring start, evidence that the LLCVB and Chamber of Commerce were doing their jobs, attracting people to Hall County.
“The future is so bright we have to wear shades,” Dickson joked. “There’s so much going on; inquiries are out the roof!”
“You’re the reason tourism works in Gainesville and Hall County,” outgoing LLCVB Chairman Bill Donohue told the nearly-fifty guests, a cross-section representing business, government, tourism, agriculture and the arts. “You all come together to make this a very, very wonderful place to come visit.”
Honored by the LLCVB for their efforts were as follows:
~Sky’s the Limit Award – Don Carter
~Beyond the Call Award – Robert Sutherland
~Out of the Box Award – Gladys Wyant
~Blazing Star Award – Shelley McMahon
~Horizon Award – Caroline Black and Jaemor Farms
~Chairman’s Award – U. S. Army Corp of Engineers
