GAINESVILLE, GA - The Gainesville City School Board officially approved a $61.2 million budget for the 2014-15 school year at its meeting Monday night.

Janet Allison, Chief Financial Officer for the school system, said they are comfortable with the budget.

"We're glad to get it passed by June 30," said Allison.

The budget restores the full school calendar and adds some 20 instructional positions to the payroll.

"It's looking like a better year. When we stop tapping the [general] fund balance, it'll be a good year," said Allison.

-William Campbell, the principal at Fair Street School, was honored as Distinguished Principal of the Year.

-The board voted to declare six vehicles as surplus--three by the end of June and three by the end 2014--and will buy six new vehicles. The money for that is included in the budget.
