GAINESVILLE - Four people were injured, including a 10-year-old boy who was critically hurt, in a two-vehicle crash on Georgia 11/U.S.129 (Cleveland Highway) in north Hall County Monday afternoon.
Trooper 1st Class Jonathan S. Munger said troopers were called to the scene of the crash at 4:55 p.m.
Munger said a vehicle driven by 62-year-old Troy Lee Veal of Gainesville was traveling in the left northbound lane negotiating a right curve on Cleveland Highway approaching the intersection of Jess Helton Road.
The second vehicle, driven by 47-year-old Carol Thompson of Clayton, was traveling southbound negotiating a left curve on Cleveland Highway approaching the intersection of Jess Helton Road.
The first vehicle traveled across the right northbound lane and the right tires of the vehicle traveled onto the east shoulder, Munger said.
Veal's vehicle traveled back into the right northbound lane and began rotating counterclockwise. It then traveled across the left northbound lane and across the center line into the southbound lane toward the Thompson's vehicle, Munger said.
The front bumper of the first vehicle struck the front bumper of the second.
The first vehicle continued to rotate counterclockwise and struck the left side of the second vehicle with its right side, Munger said.
The first vehicle came to an uncontrolled final rest facing southbound in the southbound lane, Munger said. The second vehicle traveled on the west shoulder and came to an uncontrolled final rest facing westbound.
Veal suffered bruising to his abdomen from the seatbelt, and complained of right hip and lower back pain, Munger said.
Munger said Thompson suffered a possible broken left collarbone and right ankle, and sustained cuts to her right knee.
The woman's front seat passenger, 10-year-old Aiden Thompson, suffered upper extremity injuries, Munger said.
The woman's left rear passenger, 10-year-old Ian Thompson, was airlifted from the scene. Munger said he is in critical but stable condition.
