Gilmer Co. Alzheimer's patient missing

ELLIJAY - The Gilmer County Sheriff's Office continues to search for an Alzheimer's patient missing since Sunday night.

Authorities said Earl Townsend, who goes by the nickname "Tater", was last seen on foot Sunday evening in the area of Ridgway Circle / Ridgeway Church Road / Lakeland Drive abut 12 miles out Hwy. 282.

Townsend was wearing a blue shirt, black pants and black shoes at the time he disappeared, according to investigators. He is 68-years-old, 5'3" and weighs 175 lbs.

Gilmer County authorities said they have used K9 units and a Georgia State Patrol helicopter in their search for the missing man.
