DEMOREST - A Demorest teen suffered minor injuries Monday afternoon when the truck he was driving left the road and struck several objects.

Trooper 1st Class Jesse Lewis said 16-year-old Matthew McKay II was driving a 2000 Ford Super Duty truck that was traveling east toward Cornelia on Georgia Highway 105 (Cannon Bridge Road) when the wreck happened around 2:20 p.m.

"He stated he was looking at his phone - looking up directions on his phone," Lewis said.

The truck traveled off the south shoulder of the road, striking a culvert, a 9-1-1 sign, and finally some trees, Lewis said.

The truck, owned by the driver's father, was used to pick up garbage cans for Waste Away, Lewis said.

The teen was not transported from the scene for medical treatment, Lewis said.
