Charges filed in Hwy. 316 wreck
WINDER - A Tennessee man has been charged in a Wednesday wreck on Highway 316 in Barrow County that killed a Winder man and shut down the busy roadway in both directions for nearly eight hours.
The Georgia State Patrol identified the victim as Cody Grayson Brantley, age 29.
The Patrol has charged Roger Bly, 40, from Tennessee with second-degree homicide by vehicle and following to closely according to a report on the CBS Atlanta website.
The three-vehicle wreck in the westbound lanes near Patrick Mill Road, and a second wreck occurring a short time later in the eastbound lanes, shut the highway down completely in both directions between Patrick Mill and Carl Bethlehem Roads, according to Barrow County Fire Department Lt. Scott Dakin.
According to the GSP, a mower was cutting grass along the westbound shoulder, straddling the right lane.
A Dodge 3500 driven by Shane Moore of Athens came to a stop because he was unable to pass the mower.
Brantley was behind Moore in his pickup truck and slowed as he approached the rear of Moore's Dodge.
The tractor-trailer struck the rear of the pickup causing its front end to strike the Dodge 3500.
The trailer of the tractor-trailer overturned.
Moore was injured and taken to Athens Regional Hospital.
Authorities finished cleaning up the diesel spill that occurred at the site around 11 p.m.
