Pedestrian killed by government van in Gwinnett County
By The Associated Press
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- Police in Atlanta's northeastern suburbs are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck and killed by a Gwinnett County government van.
Lawrenceville police Capt. Jeff Smith said 66-year-old Rama Sriram of Tucker was walking when she was hit by the van shortly before noon on Monday. Gwinnett fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said firefighters found the woman unresponsive and unconscious.
Smith tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://on-ajc.com/SpPhzb ) that the intersection is a four-way stop, but it was not known if Sriram was in a crosswalk when she was hit.
Smith said the van belongs to the county's technical services department. He said it was driven by a county employee, who stopped at the scene.
