Motorcyclist struck, killed in Blue Ridge over holiday weekend

BLUE RIDGE - The Georgia State Patrol has released more information about a fatal wreck in Blue Ridge over the holiday weekend.

According to an email from the GSP, the accident happened around 1:15 p.m. Saturday on Highway 17.

A 2002 Acura TL was attempting to turn left out of a gas station onto the highway, when the car was struck by a motorcycle heading north.

The driver of the motorcycle, Jerry Paul Deplancke, 67, of Ellijay was ejected from the bike and died at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the Acura, 26-year-old Jonah Bruce Matheson, from Hayesville, N.C., was charged with homicide by vehicle in the second degree and failure to yield while turning left.
