First Republican Hall Co. Commissioner dies

GAINESVILLE - Hall County's first Republican county commissioner, Dennis Pitts, has died.
Pitts died Saturday on the Pitts family farm in Oglethorpe County at the age of 58.
He made history in 1994 when he became the first Republican elected to the Hall County Commission. He served on the board for eight years before beginning a career in real estate.
Pitts returned to the public sector by joining the office of Lt. Governor Cagle in 2007 as the North Georgia field representative. He was eventually named Cagle's Chief Economic Development Officer. Cagle was among those at his bedside when he died Saturday.
Pitts was also the former President and CFO of Minit Save Food Stores and Pitts Management Company.
The family will receive guests for a memorial service at 978 Arnold Caldwell Rd., Carlton, Georgia, Monday from 10:00-12:00.
