Runoff in store for Hall school board race
By Derreck Booth Editor
GAINESVILLE - Two candidates for the District 2 post on the Hall County Board of Education are slated to meet in a runoff. The news comes following a late Friday afternoon count of provisional ballots in the primary.
The incumbent, Brian Sloan, garnered 49.99 percent of the vote, just shy of the 50 percent-plus-one required for an outright win.
According to numbers from the Hall County elections office, challenger Mark Pettitt will face Sloan in the runoff. Pettitt edged out Traci Lawson McBridge by just seven votes to come in second.
The primary runoff is July 22.
Reached by phone Friday evening, Hall County Elections Director Charlotte Sosebee said she was unaware if any of the candidates would request a recount in the tight race.
