CHANTILLY, Va. (AP) -- A Dulles International Airport official says a flight from White Plains, New York, to Atlanta landed safely after it was diverted to the airport outside Washington.

Dulles spokeswoman Kimberly Gibbs says Delta Air Lines flight 4916 landed around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday and taxied to the gate. She says the flight was diverted because of a mechanical issue.

If the mechanical issue is taken care of, Gibbs says passengers may continue on the flight or they may be rebooked.

She did not have details on how many passengers were on board.

Delta did not immediately return a call seeking details about the flight.
