GAINESVILLE - The three-way race for the school board seat now held by Brian Sloan is turning out to be the most expensive of the Hall County contests on the May 20 General Election ballots.

Campaign Contribution Disclosure Reports filed for the period ending March 31, show Traci McBride, Mark Pettitt and Brian Sloan have raised a combined total of $19,209.55 and have spent $9,430.72. All three are running in the Republican Primary.

Sloan, the incumbent, leads in both categories, with Pettitt second in contributions and expenditures.

Sloan reports raising $8,527.55 and spending $3,399.16. Pettitt reported contributions of $8,390 and expenditures of $4,000. McBride's contributions totaled $2,352 and her expenses $2,031.56.

In the other school board race, which also features only Republicans, Paul Wayne Godfrey reports raising $2,448 and spending $425.96. His opponent, incumbent Bill Thompson, did not file a report because he signed an affidavit declaring that he does not intend to accept, during the current election cycle, "a combined total of contributions exceeding $2,500 for the campaign nor make a combined total of expenditures exceeding $2,500."

In the lone contested race for the Hall County Board of Commissioners, Ken Cochran reports that he had raised $3,459.50 as of March 31 and had spent $2,253.15. The other candidate in the race for the seat being vacated by Craig Lutz, Kathy Cooper, reported contributions of $3,010 and expenditures of $399.89. Both are running in the Republican Primary.
