BUFORD - A small fire at the Wayne Hill waste water treatment plant on Financial Center Way prompted the evacuation of employees Friday morning.

In an email state, Gwinnett Fire Department Lt. Colin Rhoden said firefighters were called to the scene at 9:54 a.m. When they arrived, the fire, which was on a belt to a methane compressor at the facility, had been extinguished.

Firefighters assisted with evacuation and recon of the area where the smoke and fire originated, according to Rhoden. Fire personnel shut down the methane systems until an inspection could be completed.

No one was injured, and employees at the facility were able to return to work before 10:30 a.m.
