Golf: Red Elephants continue perfect record with 'Invite' title
By Luke Story Staff
GAINESVILLE -- When playing on a home course teams are expected to play well and score low, and on Saturday the Gainesville boysí golf team proved that conventional wisdom to be right.
The Red Elephants paired their knowledge of how to play the Chattahoochee Golf Course with their boundless skill sets to shoot a two-day total of 560, a remarkable 16-under par to win their 10th tournament title of the season.
Gainesville outpaced a field of quality teams, including Marist, Greenbrier, North Oconee and St. Puis, shooting 10 strokes less than second place Marist.
Spencer Ralstonís second-round score of nine-under 63 on Saturday led the Elephants and earned the sophomore low medalist honors.
In fact, Gainesville would exit the clubhouse with three of the top five lowest individual scores over the two days, including Spencer Ralston's 133, Jackson Bishop's 139 and Lawson King's 141. Fellow Red Elephants Nathan Williams (149) and Grant Lasseter (151) also strung together respectable rounds.
Gainesville next play in the Class AAAAA championship tournament at Bartram Trial Golf Club in Evans on May 19.
-- NOTE: North Hallís Hunter Young broke the top 10 lowest individual round with a 143.
