TMC announces Patton will take over golf program

CLEVELAND -– The Truett-McConnell College Department of Athletics recently announced the hiring of Steve Patton as Assistant Athletic Director for External Affairs and head men’s and women’s golf coach.
In addition to coaching golf, Patton will be responsible for leading fundraising and public relations efforts for the Department of Athletics through management of the Bear Club, the school’s athletic booster organization, athletic ticket sales, athletic sponsorship sales and fulfillment, and assistance with the college’s capital campaign.
"Steve is an exceptional individual who brings an impeccable knowledge of the game of golf along with a proven, successful track record of fundraising,” said Truett-McConnell’s Director of Athletics Dr. Stacy Hall. “This is a very uncommon mix of talents that we are fortunate to gain. With Steve's background and our new indoor golf practice facility, I fully expect our golf program to compete for a national title."
Patton comes to Truett-McConnell from Point University where he spearheaded birthing the men’s and women’s golf programs for the school. Prior to Point University, Steve was the Assistant Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach at Truett-McConnell from 2011-2013 and the Director of Alumni Relations from 2012-2013.
After graduation, Patton entered the golf business working at courses in Virginia Beach, Va. and Birmingham, Ala. During this time, he obtained his membership in the PGA of America. Patton finished up his initial time in the golf business as the Director of Golf at Limestone Springs Golf Club in Oneonta, Ala. He was involved in starting this facility from its infancy, and was involved in all its decisions.
After his time working in the golf business, Patton entered a new profession in sales and started his own corporation. He was an independent sales representative for several different lines of outdoor furniture, and started out in the industry as the National Sales Manager for one of the companies. Patton won numerous awards for Salesman of the Year and Highest Producer for his companies. During this time, Patton also obtained his Real Estate License through the National Board of Realtors, and became a member of the Million Dollar Club in his second year after licensure on a part time basis, while still maintaining his dealers and clients in the outdoor furniture industry.
During the summer of 2011, Patton was called by then Head Golf Coach, Mary Holmes, to become her Assistant Coach at Truett-McConnell. From that time, his coaching career has blossomed to a two year stint as the Assistant Coach at TMC, to starting up a brand new program at Point University, and brings him full circle back to Truett-McConnell College. Patton also served at TMC as the Director of Alumni Relations, and at Point University as the Director of Corporate Relations.
Patton comes from a long line of golfers in his family as his grandfather, the late Conrad Rehling, was the Golf Coach at the University of Alabama, The University of Florida, and The University of West Florida.
Steve is an active member of the PGA of America, Golf Coaches Association of America, a former member of the Club Manager’s Association of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Rotary Club, National Board of Realtors, and graduate of Dale Carnegie Management Training.
Steve is married to Paige and they have 3 daughters: Lindsay (20), Stephanie (17), and Emory (15).
Also moving in this transition is head softball coach, Jenni Shepard, who serves as the Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance and Eligibility. Shepard will be promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Internal Affairs affective immediately and will continue her head coaching responsibilities.
