HCSO warns of "missed jury duty" scam
By Marc Eggers Staff
GAINESVILLE - The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is warning of a scam making the rounds in our area.
Area residents are receiving calls from individuals claiming to be Supervisors with the Sheriff's Office.
The individual on the phone indicates that they are calling because a jury duty summons was not fulfilled and that a potential warrant for their arrest was in the process.
The individual provides accurate information on local judges and personal information on the telephoned recipient.
The caller advises that money will have to be sent through a “Green Dot” card service in order for the
warrant to be dismissed. The recipient on the phone is advised to go to the local Rite Aid to obtain the
card and further instruction is given in order to “wire” the money to the assumed Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s Office Officials say that neither they, nor the Hall County Court House, will ever contact
individuals by phone requesting money in lieu of dismissing a warrant. If you find yourself receiving a
phone call of this nature, please notify your local law enforcement agency.
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is aware of the scheme and is working to identify suspects involved.
