GHS to honor three with diplomas

GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville High School Governance Council has announced the recipients of the 2014 Honorary Gainesville High School Diplomas. They are:

• Jean Gruhn
• Dr. Bill Ware
• Dianne O’Kelley

Jean Gruhn served as the Physical Education instructor and sponsor of the Gainesville High School cheerleaders for 30 years. Ms. Gruhn’s legacy is present in the high standards that GHS maintains for the cheerleaders and the many traditions she helped to establish. A native of Jefferson, she joined the faculty and was a life partner and support of her husband, Bobby Gruhn.

Dr. Bill Ware served as principal of Fair Street School and then joined the faculty of Brenau University where he was the Dean of the College of Education. Dr. Ware influenced the lives of students who later became faculty members in Gainesville City Schools and Hall County. He is a valued supporter of the Gainesville High School Theater Department and his wife, Pam Ware.

Dianne O’Kelley served as a teacher in Gainesville City Schools for 30 years. She taught at Enota and Fair Street Elementary Schools. While teaching in the school system and raising her children, she became an avid supporter of GHS academic and athletic programs. She positively influenced the lives of many Gainesville High School students and remains connected to many of them offering friendship and support.

The Honorary Graduates will be honored at a reception on Thursday, May 22nd, participate in Graduation Ceremonies on May 23, 2014, at the Gainesville High School Gymnasium.
