CLEVELAND -- In what could be a preview of collegiate games to come, White County's Spencer Adams and Buford's Jake Higginbotham dueled to a standstill on Wednesday in Cleveland.

The two pitchers proved dominant in their appearances -- though Higginbotham was forced from the game after 5 1/3 innings after taking a line drive off his lower leg.

Still, the Wolves held firm until the eighth inning, when a Buford error allowed Will Flowers just enough time to score the winning run in a 2-1 decision.

For all the pitching dominance, Flowers made the most of his senior night, going 2 for 3 with a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning. It was one of only six hits the Georgia Tech-bound Higginbotham allowed. He also struck out eight.

The Georgia-bound Adams proved even more dominant, however, allowing just three hits and striking out 13. Buford's Joey Bart did drive in the tying run in the sixth, but it was the only score of the night for the Wolves -- who had already wrapped up the Region 7-AAA title.

Matthew Hambrick came in to pitch the eighth and got the win in relief for White County, which will enter the postseason as the No. 4 seed.

The Warriors will close out the regular season on Friday at West Hall.

Buford will finish up the regular season on Friday against Dawson County in Buford.
