GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) will co-host a visit to town on May 12-14 by the national EAA's 1929 Ford Tri-Motor.

The vintage aircraft is touring the country and offering the public a chance to take a ride in the world’s first mass-produced airliner.

It will be at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport, co-hosted by Lanier Flight Centers, according to Shane Crider of the local EAA chapter.

The Ford Tri-Motor or the “Tin Goose” was first built by the Ford Motor Company in the late 1920s. EAA’s Ford Tri-Motor was constructed in 1929 and its history includes roles ranging from service as Cuban airliner to helping fight forest fires while transporting smoke jumpers.

It can carry up to ten passengers at a time. Tickets purchased in advance are $70 for adults; walk up tickets are $75 and $50 for children 17 years old and under.
