Tony Reabold has been named federal programs director for the Habersham County School System.
CLARKESVILLE - A veteran Habersham County School System administrator will move into a new role July 1.

Tony Reabold has been named director of federal programs for the Habersham County School System, a federally-funded position.

The federal programs director will oversee the numerous federal programs in the system, including special education, and eventually will assume some responsibility for system communications.

“Tony Reabold is a great fit for the position of federal programs director," said Habersham County School Superintendent Matthew Cooper. "He has an excellent working relationship with our central office leaders and with the principals in our system. His experience working with various federal programs at the building level will serve him well in this position. Tony has a proven record as a leader, strong communication skills, and excellent character."

The addition of the federally-funded position has allowed the system to eliminate a locally-funded assistant special education director position in the central office.

Cooper clarified no one is losing their job by the elimination of the position. Instead, it is being eliminated by attrition.

A list of federal programs provided by the school system includes: Title I part A Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged, Title I School Improvement, Title I Part D, Neglected and Delinquent, Title I Part C, Migrant, Title III A, LEP and immigrant students/ESOL, Title X Part C, Homeless, Title VI Part B, Rural Education, IDEA Individual Disability Education Act (Special Education), School System Consolidated Grant Application.

"Tony has also demonstrated that he is a skilled problem solver, which is important in this position," Cooper said. "Our system has had a great need for a federal programs director. The needs of our students have continued to rise, as have the demands placed on our school system with regard to the many federal programs affecting our schools. This position is a win-win for our system since it will help us financially and also allow us to better serve the needs of our students."

Reabold holds an education specialist degree and has served as principal of Level Grove Elementary in Cornelia since 2005. From 1998-2005 he served as principal of Hazel Grove Elementary in Mt. Airy. Prior to that, he served as assistant principal at Cornelia Elementary from 1993-1998. He also taught for about five years at Lawrenceville Elementary.
