GDOT's plans for routine road maintenance in NE Ga. this week

GAINESVILLE, GA. – The Georgia Department of Transportation announces road maintenance plans in northeast Georgia this week.

Most activities will only require shoulder or median lane closures.

WHEN:

Crews will work Monday, April 14 through Friday, April 18. Work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. if weather permits. Lane closures are required for patching asphalt, a flagman or pilot vehicle will direct traffic through the work zone.

WHERE and WHAT:

Habersham – A crew will use a long arm extension mower to mow the rights of way alongside SR 385. The shoulder of the roadway and a lane will be closed as this work occurs.

Lumpkin – A crew will repair edge rutting alongside SR 9 towards Dawsonville. A lane closure will be required as the work occurs.

Rabun – A crew will trim vegetation growing in the rights of way alongside SR 28, a lane closure is required as this work occurs.

Towns – A crew will mow the rights of way alongside SR 180 while another crew services the driveways and intersecting roads alongside SR 2/SR 515. The shoulders of the roadway will be closed as this work occurs.

Union – A crew will repair the edge rutting that has developed alongside SR 515 and SR 11. A lane and the shoulder will be closed as this work occurs.

White – A crew will mow the slopes alongside SR 17 and SR 255. The shoulder will be closed as this work occurs.

Dawson – A crew will fill cracks in the driving surface of the roadway on SR 183. A lane closure is required as this work occurs.

Forsyth – A crew will fill cracks in the asphalt on SR 141. A lane closure is required as this work occurs and delays are expected. Another crew will inspect the drainage system for SR 306 and SR 141, the shoulder will be closed as this work occurs.

Gwinnett –Damaged fencing alongside I-85 will be repaired. Another crew will trim vegetation growing in the rights of way alongside SR 13 and SR 8/US 29. The shoulder will be closed as this work occurs.

Hall – A crew will repair the shoulders of the roadway and the slopes in the rights of way alongside SR 211, SR 53 and SR 323. The shoulder will be closed as this work occurs. An herbicide will be sprayed in rights of way on SR 60, SR 11/US 129 and SR 369, the shoulder of the roadways will be closed as this work occurs.

Interstate 985 northbound only – A contractor will remove damaged concrete and pour new concrete, closing the right lane of I-985 from SR 347, Exit 8 to Spout Springs Road, Exit 12. Work is scheduled to occur nightly beginning Sunday, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. as weather allows.

Elbert – A crew will service the driveways that intersect with SR 72, SR 17 and SR 79.

Franklin – A crew will seal cracks on Interstate 85 northbound beginning at SR 51/Sandy Cross Road and moving north daily. A lane closures will occur as this work occurs. Another crew will replace clean and restore the ditches alongside SR 106. The shoulder will be closed as this work occurs.


Hart –A crew will rebuild the shoulders alongside SR 77 Connector. A lane and the shoulder of the roadway will be closed as this work occurs. Another crew will repair the joints between sections of the bridge’s driving surface on SR 328 over Interstate 85. A lane closure is required as this work occurs. After the Bridge over I-85 is repaired, crews will move to the SR 328 Bridge over Lake Hartwell in Gum Log to repair the joints in its driving surface. A lane closure is required as this work occurs. A third crew will fill in the cracks in the driving surface of SR 51. A lane closure is required for this work.

Madison – Crews will rebuild and repair the shoulders and slopes alongside SR 98, SR 172, SR 8 and SR 106. A lane closure will be required for this work.

Stephens –A crew will replace clean and restore the ditches alongside SR 164. The shoulder will be closed as this work occurs.

Barrow – A crew will fill in cracks in the driving surface of SR 81 and SR 211. A lane closure is required as this work occurs.

Clarke – The shoulders of SR 8 and SR 72 will be repaired. A lane and one shoulder will be closed as this work occurs.

Jackson – A crew will be repairing the driving surface or bridge deck on three bridges on Interstate 85 northbound between SR 53/Exit 129 and SR 11/US 129/Exit 137. The bridges are over Walnut Creek, the CSX Railroad and the Middle Oconee River. Crews will start at Walnut Creek, the southern most of the three bridges. Then move to the Railroad Bridge and last to the northern most bridge over the Middle Oconee River.

Oconee – A crew will mow the slopes in the rights of way alongside SR 186. The shoulder will be closed as this work occurs.

Walton – Edge rutting will be repaired alongside SR 138 and SR 83. Vegetation in the rights of way will be trimmed in rights of way alongside SR 11. Shoulder closures are required for each of these maintenance activities.
