HOMER - The Banks County Commission paused to recognize the county's 9-1-1 personnel and 2013 Dispatcher of the Year Tuesday night.

In addition to designating April 13-19 as Public Safety Telecommunicators' Week, recognizing the work of dispatchers, the commission honored Rhonda Savage as 2013 Dispatcher of the Year.

"She is a true asset to our community and to 9-1-1 as a whole," said Banks County 9-1-1/Emergency Management Agency Director Deidra Moore. "She's a very strong link in the 9-1-1 chain."

Savage began work in Banks County on Oct. 29, 2012. She was named a senior dispatcher on Sept. 27, 2013, then supervisor on Jan. 26.

"Rhonda’s teammates look to her regularly and she always sets a good example," Moore said.

Moore said Savage has not had any unexcused absences and is always willing to do what is necessary to keep things going.

"Rhonda's mom is battling cancer; Rhonda is her primary caregiver," Moore said. "Rhonda takes her mom to and from doctor visits during the day hours and works at night. She handles all of her care."

Moore said Savage maintains a high level of professional service to the community and the county's responders.

"No matter how little sleep she gets or how hard she has had to work, she is always here on time, always professional, always helping and never, ever complains," Moore said. "We call her our Super Dispatcher."

Moore praised the Banks County 9-1-1 staff.

"We have a great team," she said. "There are 'extra special' and 'especially good' qualities in each person at every link in our chain. I am very proud of all of them and very honored to have each and every person contributing and this team is one of my many blessings."

In addition to Moore and Savage, the staff includes Susanne Franklin, Sonny Bellinger, Kara Lecoe, Jeannie Tatum, Heather Meadows, Kayla White, Christy Welborn, Jandon Allen, Breanna Ivey, Karen Roy, Angela Gailey and Elizabeth Mize.
