Former insurance agent in Franklin County faces charges
By Derreck Booth Editor
ATLANTA - A 34-year-old man was arrested Tuesday, charged with insurance fraud in Franklin County.
James Travis Williams faces 15 counts of insurance fraud and two counts of forgery, according to Georgia Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens.
Williams had owned and operated Tri-County Insurance in Royston. Authorities alleged Williams collected about $30,000 in premiums and never forwarded them to insurance companies for coverage.
He relinquished his insurance license last October by signing a consent order, according to Hudgens.
"This office will not tolerate any insurance agent stealing from his or her customer. Such actions constitute a violation of a trust between an agent and policyholder, a violation we take very seriously," Hudgens said.
Williams was booked into the Franklin County Jail.
Hudgens urged people who may have purchased insurance through Williams or Tri-County Insurance Agency to contact their insurance company to verify coverage.
