BUFORD - Gwinnett County police Thursday afternoon released surveillance photos of a man they say robbed a Buford bank earlier this month.

Cpl. Jake Smith said the incident happened around 12:15 p.m. on March 18 at United Community Bank on South Lee Street.

"What we had is a guy who went in, acted very casually and ultimately when it was his turn to approach the teller, he produced a note. The note demanded money and claimed that he had a gun," Smith said.

Smith added that the suspect was quiet and never made a move to harm anyone.

Tellers gave the suspect a small amount of cash, and he ran from the bank, acccording to Smith.

"He appears to be a little bit older than we typically see in the bank robberies, maybe around 40-years-old, a white male. At this point point, we're really just not sure who he is or where he's from, if he's got a history of this or if it may be a one-time thing," Smith said.

Police described the man as approximately six feet tall with a medium build and light-colored goatee.
