Overnight, weekend resurfacing planned in Lumpkin Co.
DAHLONEGA - With the arrival of spring and warmer temperatures comes road resurfacing projects in Georgia - and Lumpkin County has two scheduled to start this week.
Resurfacing of State Route 9/Morrison Moore Parkway from West Main Street/Barlow Street to State Route 60 Business will begin tonight, if weather permits. This 4.2 mile long project was awarded to C.W. Matthews Contracting Company of Marietta for a contract cost of $1.49 million. The project completion date is August 31.
The first phase of work is to remove damaged asphalt and rebuilding those sections from the roadway base up. The second phase of work is resurfacing and finally placing the smooth driving surface is last. A pilot vehicle will be used to direct traffic through the work zone.
The contract requires all work will occur overnights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day, Sundays through Thursdays. No daytime lane closures are allowed and no Friday or Saturday lane closures are allowed.
Meanwhile, resurfacing of State Route 60 Business from State Route 9 to State Route 9 in Dahlonega will begin this weekend, if weather permits. This project is restricted to working weekends only from Friday nights at 9 p.m. continuously to 6 a.m. Mondays. This 4.18 mile long project was also awarded to C.W. Matthews and for a contract cost of one million dollars. The project completion date is July 31.
