Piedmont women fall to Meredith College in tennis
By staff reports
RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Piedmont College women's tennis team fell in the second of a two-match swing through Carolina dropping a 6-3 decision to USA South member Meredith College earlier Saturday afternoon. The Lady Lions move to 5-2 in conference play with the decision while Meredith stays undefeated in league play at 6-0.
Taking a decision for PC in doubles play was the pair of Viola Terschluse and Nicole Parrish as the two picked up Piedmont's only doubles win in tiebreak fashion 9-7. Piedmont fell at the top doubles spot 9-7 and dropped #3 doubles 8-4 as the Lady Lions could have swung the match more in their favor had the #1 doubles decision gone the way of the visitors.
In singles action, Piedmont took both of its decisions in tiebreak fashion as Katie Sailors defeated Puja Patel after dropping the first set 1-6 as Sailors rallied in the second to win 7-6 (7-5) before taking the tiebreak 10-8. Fellow senior Ashley Fannon also took her singles decision in tiebreak though it was Fannon who witnessed a comeback from Meredith's Taylor Brennan.
After Fannon sailed in the opening set 6-0, Brennan rallied in the second set to win 7-6 before Fannon was able to right the ship and take the tiebreak 10-2. Down 2-0 after doubles play, Piedmont would not be able to overcome the deficit though as Sailors and Fannon were the only singles winners in the 6-3 loss for PC.
