NGMC offering free educational seminars about colorectal health

By Staff
Attend a free educational seminar, presented by physicians of the Cancer Center at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC), to learn about prevention, screening and treatment options for colorectal cancer and other colon diseases such as celiac disease, Crohn’s disease and diverticulitis.

The American Cancer Society states that one in 20 people will develop colorectal cancer at some point in his or her lifetime. For many of us, that could be someone within our close circle of family or friends. The good news – there are also more than 1 million survivors of colorectal cancer in the United States. Education and awareness are key to increasing this number.

The seminar will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with two opportunities to attend: Thursday, March 20, in Walters Auditorium at NGMC in Gainesville and Thursday, March 27 in the Hall County Library Spout Springs Branch in Flowery Branch.

Speakers include Ronald C. Lewis, MD, FACS, a general surgeon with Northeast Georgia Physicians Group Surgical Associates and chief of staff at NGMC; and Neeraj Sharma, MD, a gastroenterologist with Gastroenterology Associate of Gainesville and medical director of Endoscopy at NGMC.

Registration and a free light supper start at 5:30 p.m., with the presentation beginning at 6 p.m. The seminar is free, but registration is required.

For more information or to register, call 770-219-3840, or register online at www.nghs.com/colon-seminar.
